May I send my sponsorship several months at a time?
Yes, you may send payments in three month, six month or yearly increments. We’ll set up together the best schedule for your payments, and keep you informed before the deadline.
How much of my sponsorship gift gets to my sponsored child?
100 %. All of our minimal administrative costs are funded by outside sources and individuals who designated funding for that purpose. Peace Children Care Home in India uses 100 percent of your sponsorship funds for the care of the whole child – physically, spiritually, and educationally.
If I send extra funds to Peace Children Care Home, where does it go?
Any undesignated funds you send above your sponsorship amount will feed, provide clothes, and educate all the other orphans who do not have a sponsor. It improves the fulfillments of the other children’s needs, which results in improvements for your sponsored child too. If you designate your funds to a certain project (such as land purchase, water projects, etc.) it will be used specifically for that project.
May I send a birthday or Christmas gift to my sponsored child?
We encourage sponsors to send cards, bookmarks, and any lightweight materials. Those are what count the most in the child’s development.
We discourage physical gifts for a few practical reasons:
-Those gifts often get stolen before they arrive at Peace Children Care Home.
-We may have to pay customs to receive them.
-It is unfair to the other children, creating a competitive atmosphere.
-Often gifts we would choose here in the West are not applicable to them.
You may send extra money at any time for birthday and Christmas. It will go towards school supplies and backpacks for school or the new outfits or “dresses” that your child and all the children will receive for their Christmas and New Year’s presents.
How can I make them feel special? May I write letters to my Sponsored Child?
Write to them!!! Send them a photo of you and your pets or your children, coloring pages and deflated balloons. They treasure any communication they receive from you. This makes them feel very special. When we asked the children to show us their “treasures” in their little trunks, they pulled out pictures and letters from their sponsors. Ask questions, get to know them. Consider yourself as a mentor in their spiritual and emotional development. Remember: things do not love them. People do.
How will my sponsored child communicate with me?
Your sponsored child will write you once in six months. The child may tell about their home life, education, friends and so on. Remember that the children may write in their mother tongue which is Tamil although they have English lessons in their schools so their letters (and yours) are translated. If the child is quite young, letter writing skills are often helped along by an adult.
You will also receive a regular newsletter via email of our events and happenings in the home.
Can I visit my Sponsored Child?
Peace Children Care Home welcomes sponsors to visit their sponsored children. Check also the Volunteers page for informations.
The monthly fees are too much for me, can I share with others?
You can share the sponsoring fees for a child with a group of your friends or family or organisation. However, it is preferable that only one person is in contact with the child, in order to avoid any confusion for the child and additional translating costs. Set up a group of two or more interested sponsors who want to share the amount required, designate one person who will be the correspondent, and let’s start the adventure!
